Scenario practice

How to approach CBAP® scenario questions

Scenario questions are difficult because several options can sound reasonable. The task is to identify the response that best fits the situation, timing, role, and business-analysis objective.

01Guide

Read for the decision point

Separate background detail from the actual decision. Identify what has happened, where the work sits, who owns the next action, and what the question is asking you to optimize.

02Guide

Compare options relationally

Do not ask only whether an option is true. Ask why it is stronger than the alternatives in this specific context.

  • Does it address the immediate problem?
  • Is it appropriate at this stage?
  • Does it respect the analyst’s role?
  • Is another option a necessary step first?

03Guide

Review the distractors

The most useful review explains why attractive incorrect choices are less appropriate. This develops transferable judgment instead of memorizing a displayed letter.
